About Sunday Services Children_are_Welcome

  • Are a Eucharist, according to “A Prayer Book for Australia”

  • “Eucharist” means “Thanksgiving”, also called Holy Communion

  • Children are especially welcomed

  • Children have special activities and are encouraged to share in parts of the service

  • We enjoy some fun and informality

  • Inspiring and thought provoking sermons

  • Music comes mostly from “Together In Song” a hymn book used by several Christian church denominations and published in U.K. and New Zealand as “With One Voice”.

  • Our choir leads the singing at St Andrews and a small singing group assists at St Johns

  • Accompaniment at both churches is provided by piano and organ with occasional performances by the Jumping Jacks Band of young musicians.

  • A friendly cuppa is available after our services.

  • Many visitors attend our services as this is a holiday area

  • Some visitors form a special relationship with us as Companions of The Parish.

  • Companions receive regular mailouts of parish pew sheets and our “Beacon” magazine.

Christmas

  • At 11.30pm on Christmas Eve there is a Christmas Eucharist in both churches

  • On Christmas Morning there are three Eucharists at St Johns Sorrento and one at St Andrews Rye.

Easter

  • Our first Easter Eucharist is celebrated on the beach at Blairgowrie, mid-way between the two churches.Easter at Beach 3_1

  • We gather before dawn

  • From the car park at the Yacht Squadron our way to the beach is lit by torches and candles.

  • We light the New Fire to be carried to the two churches for the lighting of the Pascal Candle.

  • We celebrate the Eucharist as the sun rises over the water; a powerful sign of the Risen Christ.

  • Baptismal vows are renewed with sprinkling of water from the sea.

  • We have had two adults baptised here and early morning walkers have stopped to join in.

  • Celebratory Eucharists follow at both churches. Three at St Johns and two at St Andrews.
