Parish Life

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Parish seeks to serve our local community. But the various forms of outreach just could not happen without the hard work of our dedicated volunteers who come from within the Parish and also from the wider community.
Volunteering brings many rewards.
  • Working together is a great way to get to know people and make new friendships.
  • It is a great way to learn new skills and bring out our hidden talents.
  • These achievements can be very fulfilling.
So take a look at the opportunities the Parish offers. You may think “Yes, I would like to try that”.
You do not necessarily need to be an expert at anything. We are all on a learning curve.
Please note that the law requires all who work with children to undergo a Police Check and a Working with Children Check.
JackanAndy’s Op Shop more
Our wonderful volunteer staff is the life blood of JackanAndy's.
What is Involved?
  • Our volunteers create a warm and welcoming atmosphere as they carry out the various jobs:-
  • Serving at the counter, sorting in the work room, tidying the racks, helping someone to look for something special and generally keeping the shop clean and tidy.
  • We also look after bookings, by phone or in person, for the Arts Group . Just another string to our bow!
    Many friendships have been formed on both sides of the counter.
    Recipes are swapped, reminiscences are shared, worries become less when you find that you are not alone.
Trading Hours
Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm
Saturday 10am to 1pm
Generally the shifts are three hours, from 10am to 1pm, from 1pm to 4pm, or a whole day, maybe once a week, once a fortnight, or once a month, depending on the amount of time volunteers can give.
Where?
848 Melbourne Road Sorrento
Volunteering is not all work.
Parish Life
There are also many opportunities to help in all aspects of our Parish life.
Worship Services
Rosters for readers, servers, welcomers, sidespersons, flowers, linen and brass
Office Assistance
In many areas - from folding pew sheets to advanced computer skills
Pastoral Care:
Visiting team, prayer chain, transport for those without it
Gardening:
We like both churches to look inviting, and the large rear garden at Rye is both a quiet oasis and a place for outdoor worship or social events
Trade and Professional Skills:
All types needed. Though it may be hard to use an astronaut!
Leadership Teams:
We believe in shared leadership so tell us if you feel a calling to serve on vestry (management committee), liturgy committee (helps plan our worship services), Parish Fair committee, mission group (maintains links between the parish and the local and overseas projects we support), arts group (runs our concert and poetry programs). etc
Hospitality:
From washing up to preparing and serving for a few or for large groups
There are many other necessary tasks which go un-noticed until there is no one to do them. We do have a place for you.
