A Creative Means for ExpressionSue_Sandplay

Sue creates an opportunity to explore inner thoughts and feelings, finding ways to express them in a symbolic way and reviewing the events that have left an imprint on one’s life.

Often these imprints of experience have been repressed and forgotten.

It is important that a person feels safe and trusting in the relationship with a therapist. Sue believes it is then that whatever needs to be expressed will make itself known. Given the proper conditions, there is, deep in the unconscious, an autonomous tendency for the psyche to heal itself.

With a choice of various creative modalities, for example Sandplay Therapy, Symbolic Representational Miniature Figures, Drawing and Clay Work, the presenting difficulty can be created in a visual way. The inner problem becomes externalized and in this experiential way becomes conscious. Whatever may manifest can then be worked through with understanding.

More About SueSue_B_profile

A Kindergarten Director, Sue established a Kindergarten in Melbourne before moving to the Peninsula and taught at a Mornington Pre-School for 10 years. Whilst there she gained funding for an Early Intervention Program for Children with Special Needs, creating an opportunity for families to have assistance and support for their young child.

Furthering her studies, recognizing her position had become that of counsellor, educator and social worker, Sue moved on to Monash University to establish a Child and Family Service for staff and students.

On completion of her studies in Family Therapy, Sue was informed of a position on the Peninsula which led to her involvement in the establishment of a Child and Family Agency in Rosebud, now called Anglicare Family Services.

During her time as Team Leader of a growing agency, Sue discovered Sandplay and Expressive Therapies. Furthering her interest and skills in this area she completed training in this specialised field.

In order to specialise in this fairly new field in Australia Sue began her own practice. She has recently extended her interest in Sandplay Therapy, attending extensive training in Zurich, Switzerland where this Therapy originated.

In 2003 Sue came to the Parish, continuing her connection with Reverend Catherine Eaton, and offered her services to the Parish and Community of Rye and surrounds. Sue is now a member of our Parish staff team on a sessional basis for the Music and Storytelling program, and offers individual consultations in her consulting room in St Hildegard’s House at St Andrew’s Rye.
