About Food Relief

Our purpose is to assist those in our local community who are under financial stress and who struggle to put food on their tables.

Food stocks are supplied by Parish donations, through Food for All, (a service covering the whole of the Mornington Peninsula) and by donations from local businesses and community groups.

Who comes to us?

Everyone is welcomed. The people who approach us for assistance include:

  • Single Mums with children struggling to survive on a pension. A few of these women have between 5-7 mouths to feed. Most don’t own their own homes and therefore live in rented accommodation. Those who do wonder how long they can keep paying the mortgage before their homes are auctioned off.

  • Middle-aged men living in caravan parks raising teen-aged children. Some are fortunate enough to live in rented accommodation.

  • A few single men have approached us for food assistance having been retrenched from their jobs and battling to find work and sometimes accommodation. Usually these guys rely on their friends to help them out in the meantime.

  • Aged and pensioners generally seek our assistance because the pension rate doesn’t always sustain them.

  • Folk who attend our weekly Friday Club and who are dealing with mental and emotional issues also require our help as most are financially disadvantaged too.

Numbers of people coming rise during the Autumn and Winter months. In the current economic climate numbers continue to rise.
