Wedding Costs

We are delighted that you are considering being married in St. John’s Church, Sorrento or St. Andrew’s Church, Rye.
The Wedding Fee of $1000 is a fixed fee for either Church.

 This fee covers the following:

  • A Priest of the Parish
    who assists you with documentation, details of your wedding service, your rehearsal and officiating at your ceremony. (If, after consultation with our Parish Priest, you invite another priest/minister to be involved, please ensure that they receive separate recompense).
  • Marriage Education Program
    You receive a Couple Workbook at your first Interview and will be asked to attend the Preparation Session (see below). 
  • Church Organist
    (Music Information Brochure will be made available).
  • Church Flowers
    Traditional classic arrangements of white and cream with greenery are provided. White or cream bows are placed on pews. The ambience of the stained glass windows highlights the beauty of this historic church.
  • The Verger
    who prepares the Church and is in attendance during the service.
  • Your donation to the Church and a small fee to the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne.
    Following your initial interview with our Priest please forward a non-refundable deposit of $200, within 14 days, to confirm your booking. The balance of your Wedding Fee is required one month before your wedding on receipt of our invoice.

Wedding Documents

Requirements of the Marriage Act (1961) – Commonwealth of Australia:

  • Notice of Intended Marriage
    This form needs to be completed by the couple and the officiating priest not more than 18 months and not less than one month prior to the intended date of the marriage.
  • Birth Certificates
    The officiating priest must see the bride’s and groom’s Birth Certificate or Extract of Birth.
  • Re-Marriage
    The officiating priest is required to see documentary evidence of the death of a spouse or of divorce.

Other Requirements

  • Baptism or Confirmation
    Certificate of Baptism or Confirmation of at least one party is desirable if you choose to be married in the Anglican Church.
  • Couples Who Attend Another Church
    If you are involved in another Church we ask that, out of courtesy, you notify your Priest or Minister of your intention to be married in our Church.
  • Appointments and Contact with Your Officiating Priest
    Your first appointment is to meet and complete documents, with follow-up emails about any special requests and the drafting of your order of service.
    A rehearsal appointment is required to finalise documentation and to personalise your ceremony for your special day.

Wedding Service

 

  • Ushers
    Please arrange for two people to come early to welcome your guests, hand out your Order of Service or books and show guests to their seats.
  • Photography
    We appreciate that you will want to have a special record of your wedding. However, we want to avoid the taking of photos distracting from the significance of the ceremony. Several opportunities are given during the service for photographs to be taken. Floodlights are not permitted. Please ask your photographer to speak to your officiating priest before the service.
  • Order of Service
    If you choose to print your Order of Service, please note that when words of hymns, songs, prayers etc. are reproduced, their source must be acknowledged.
  • Music
    To arrange your music requirements please consult with the organist. (see below for contact details).
  • Readings
    Members of your family or friends are welcome to read these. Readings are chosen in consultation with your officiating priest. At least one reading is required from the Bible.
  • Rose Petals and Bubbles are Permitted but no Confetti or Rice
    Please respect that no confetti or rice is to be thrown in the Church or in the grounds  
  • Contact the Parish Office 03(5985 1399) for any information about the preparation of the Church.

Marriage Education Program

All couples who plan to be married at St John’s or St Andrew’s are asked to attend a Preparation Session on a Sunday afternoon from 2pm until 5pm.

A date suitable for you to attend before your wedding will be given to you well in advance.

Afternoon Tea is provided.

 Shirley and John Goldsworthy conduct this Session. They are experienced Couple Relationship Educators. Shirley is a registered Counselling Psychologist and her Workbook for Couples, “I, You and Us, creating a loving, lasting marriage” will be given to you beforehand to read through and discuss the couple questions.  The content includes:

  • Communication: Effective listening and Problem Solving Skills.
  • Staying connected and strengthening your intimate love.
  • Balancing Togetherness and Separateness
  • Exploring Values, Roles and Expectations.
  • Keeping fun, romance and passion alive.

The Preparation Session also provides opportunity for you to talk about further details relating to your Wedding Service and the preparation of printing your Order of Service.
